The City Palace is located in the city centre of Jaipur, India. It was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II and was the ceremonial and administrative seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur. Unlike earlier palace complexes in Rajasthan, which were built rather like castles, the City Palace is a unique complex of courtyards, buildings, pavilions, gardens and temples. Today it is partly open to the public and accommodates a museum.
